Notes

'Gentry' Japanese barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Gentry') is a shrub for hedges and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Pale yellow flowers open in early to late spring and attract bees and birds. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The dense shrub tolerates drought and salt.

Pairs well with Flowering quince, Garlic chives, and Kentucky bluegrass.
