Notes
Giant trillium (Trillium chloropetalum) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. The large flowers sit right on top of leaves that come in whorls of three and are often mottled with dark blotches. Plants take as long as 5 years to reach flowering size, so buy only nursery-propagated plants. Deer tend to browse other plants first.
Pairs well with Red trillium, Lady fern, and Rainbow's End hosta.
Native range
CA, OR, and WA.
