Notes

'Green Ball' sweet William (Dianthus barbatus 'Green Ball') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its fragrant blooms open in spring and again in summer, and bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit them. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. The gray-green foliage forms a cascading mound.

Pairs well with Lamb’s ear, Purple cranesbill, and Blue fescue.
