Notes

'Hakone Blue' balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorus 'Hakone Blue') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It forms a tidy clump that grows 18 to 24 inches tall and 12 to 18 inches wide. Blue flowers open in early to late spring and again in early to late summer. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Bridal Bouquet peony, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and African Queen lily.
