Notes
Hummingbird sage (Salvia spathacea) is a perennial for borders, ground cover, and xeriscape. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It spreads by rhizomes, so give it room. Tall spikes of large, tubular, magenta flowers rise above quilted, aromatic leaves and draw hummingbirds.
Pairs well with Mondo grass, Madrone, and Texas mountain laurel.
