Notes
'Irene' peony (Paeonia 'Irene') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant, semi-double flowers bloom in midseason, and bees and butterflies visit them. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. H.A. Terry bred this peony.
Pairs well with Pale purple coneflower, Empress Wu hosta, and Prairie dropseed.
