Notes

Japanese red pine (Pinus densiflora) is a tree for specimen planting, accent, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun, average moisture, and most soil types. It is an evergreen with a multi-trunked habit that grows slowly and tolerates drought and salt. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Give it room, since it can reach a wide spread over time.

Pairs well with Limeglow creeping juniper, Ice Follies daffodil, and Picture peony.

Native range

Eastern temperate Asia.
