Notes

Eastern white pine (Pinus strobus) is a tree for specimen planting, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Its horizontal, tiered branches carry soft needles in clusters of five. It grows fast and stays evergreen, and birds and mammals use it for food and shelter.

Pairs well with Witch hazel, Sedge, and Western sword fern.

Native range

Southeastern Canada and eastern United States.
