Notes

Java-bean (Senna obtusifolia) is a perennial for borders, naturalized areas, and dry sites. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Yellow flowers open in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn. It grows 24 to 60 inches tall and wide, so give it room. Its drought tolerance suits it to dry spots.

Pairs well with Blazing star, Mountain mint, Feather reed grass, and Buffalo grass.

Native range

Eastern United States, Central America, and Northern South America.
