Notes
'Legionnaire' peony (Paeonia 'Legionnaire') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. The single dark red blooms have a Japanese effect and open a week earlier than Officinalis Rubra. Lyman D. Glasscock bred it.
Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Prairie dropseed, and Nodding onion.
