Notes
'Louis Barthelot' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Louis Barthelot') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Edouard Doriat bred it. The double white flowers open in late spring and form a nearly perfect ball of creamy white on strong stems. The blooms often open poorly, so watch them closely as the buds swell.
Pairs well with Iris, Ostrich fern, and Common milkweed.
