Notes

'Maclean's Favourite' apple (Malus domestica 'Maclean's Favourite') is a tree for the food garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Dr Allan Maclean bred it in 1820. It grows slowly into a dense tree and blooms from early to late spring, which draws bees. The tree is not self-fertile, so plant a second apple nearby for pollination.

Pairs well with Johnny jump up, Krossa Regal hosta, and Mountain laurel.
