Notes

'Empire' apple (Malus domestica 'Empire') is a fruit tree for food gardens, pollinator gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is grown for fresh eating and juice. The crisp, sweet fruit tastes best straight from the tree. The New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, Geneva bred it in 1945.

Pairs well with Flowering quince, Garlic chives, Carnaval De Nice tulip, and African marigold.
