Notes

'Madame de Vatry' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Madame de Vatry') is a perennial for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The large, double, fragrant blooms open light pink with cream-white petals around the center. Modeste Guérin bred it in 1852. Cut the flowers early, because its greatest beauty comes before it is fully open.

Pairs well with Spanish bluebell, Swamp milkweed, Sensitive fern, and Foxtail barley.
