Notes
'Madame Leo Fernig' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Madame Leo Fernig') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Large, flat, red flowers shade to purple in late spring. The stems are strong, and the compact green foliage stays tidy on a fairly short plant. Michel Rivière bred it in 1998.
Pairs well with Bobo hydrangea, Stargazer lily, and Wild ginger.
