Notes

'Cupcake' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Cupcake') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. John W. and Dot M. McFarlane bred it, and it first bloomed in 1991. Early blooms open in light pink with dark red flares. Strong stems hold the large, deep cupped flowers well above the foliage.

Pairs well with Elegans hosta, Toad lily, and Anglojap yew.
