Notes

Mountain maple (Acer spicatum) is a tree for shade gardens, woodland edges, and erosion control on slopes. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows slowly to 10 to 25 feet tall with multiple trunks and a mushroom-shaped habit. The dark green leaves turn mottled orange to bright red in fall. Bees and birds visit it.

Pairs well with Mountain ash, Blue Moon honeyberry, and Trailing arbutus.
