Notes

'Mariechen' peony (Paeonia 'Mariechen') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. Glowing red petals open into cupped flowers about 5 inches across, and the plant grows upright to 30 inches without support. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms.

Pairs well with PowWow White coneflower, Dancing Queen hosta, and Standing Ovation little bluestem.
