Notes

'Mattinata' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Mattinata') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant, semi-double flowers open in early to mid spring. They are rose-pink with lighter edges and violet-red flares. Irmtraud Rieck bred it, and it grows upright and spreading to about 4 feet tall.

Pairs well with Hardy geranium, Switchgrass, and Stargazer lily.
