Notes

'Midnight' peony (Paeonia 'Midnight') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant, fully double flowers are dark blackish red and shaped like bombs. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Strong straight stems carry the blooms, and healthy dark green foliage reaches to the ground.

Pairs well with PowWow White coneflower, Stained Glass hosta, and Standing Ovation little bluestem.
