Notes

'Monge' lilac (Syringa vulgaris 'Monge') is a shrub for borders, hedges, specimen planting, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. Deep reddish purple blooms open in early to late spring and smell sweet. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit the flowers. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Red twig dogwood, Creeping phlox, Picture tulip, and Standing Ovation little bluestem.
