Notes

'Nigra' magnolia (Magnolia liliiflora 'Nigra') is a shrub for borders, specimen planting, accents, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its deep pink and purple flowers are fragrant and open from early to late spring. Butterflies and birds visit it, and it grows slowly into a mounding shape.

Pairs well with Korean spice viburnum, Queen of Night tulip, and Blue fescue.
