Notes

Nootka rose (Rosa nutkana) is a shrub for hedges and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Large, fragrant pink flowers open in early summer and draw bees and butterflies. Birds can nest in the thicket of canes, which grows 4 to 6 feet high. It is prone to fungal problems, so give it good air flow.

Pairs well with Douglas fir, Thimbleberry, and Ocean spray.
