Notes

'Opal' plum (Prunus domestica 'Opal') is a tree for food gardens and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil. It is grown for fresh eating, and the plums ripen over one to two weeks. Bees and butterflies visit the spring blooms, and thinning the crop improves the flavor. Horticultural Research Station, Alnarp bred it in 1925.

Pairs well with Royal Star star magnolia, Gladiator ornamental onion, and Hummelo betony.
