Notes

'President' plum (Prunus domestica 'President') is a tree for food gardens and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil. Rivers Nursery bred it in 1901, and the large blue and purple fruit is grown for fresh eating, cooking, and drying. Bees and butterflies visit the spring flowers. The brittle wood can snap under heavy crops, so thin the fruit to protect the branches.

Pairs well with Cortland apple, Gladiator ornamental onion, and Clematis.
