Notes

'Othello' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Othello') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Auguste Dessert bred it in 1908. The single flowers are cherry-red with a conspicuous white disk. The plant stays compact, and the blooms sit close to the foliage.

Pairs well with Switchgrass, Stargazer lily, and Garlic chives.
