Notes

'Porta Nigra' peony (Paeonia 'Porta Nigra') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant, light pink flowers are semi-double with frilled, ruffled guard petals, and the upright plants stand about 26 inches tall without support. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Joshua Scholten bred it.

Pairs well with Fire and Ice hosta, Quick Fire panicle hydrangea, and Blue grama.
