Notes
'Porto Spineless' cardoon (Cynara cardunculus 'Porto Spineless') is an annual for borders, specimen planting, and food gardens. Give it full sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It grows fast in a clump and reaches about 48 inches tall. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. The leaf stalks taste like artichoke, so you can grow it for the kitchen. Bees and butterflies visit the purple blooms.
Pairs well with Indian grass, Zinnia, and Jerusalem artichoke.
