Notes

Prairie hawthorn (Crataegus punctata) is a tree for hedges, woodland gardens, and low maintenance landscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Clusters of white, rose-like flowers are followed by dull red fruit. The tree is flat-topped and thorny, and it is usually wider than tall. It is quite susceptible to rust, so give it good air flow.

Pairs well with Sassafras, Wild geranium, and Cinnamon fern.
