Notes
'Prairie King' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Prairie King') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Rosenfield bred it in 1908. The large, globular, double flowers are light crimson shaded with purple and smell fragrant. They open in early to mid spring on tall, strong, erect stems.
Pairs well with Spiked speedwell, Cinnamon fern, and Queen of Night tulip.
