Notes
'Pretorian Guard' peony (Paeonia 'Pretorian Guard') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Red, fragrant flowers open early with frilled guard petals on upright stems that need no support. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. Joshua Scholten bred it.
Pairs well with Royal Standard hosta, Standing Ovation little bluestem, and Queen of Night tulip.
