Notes

'Purple Gem' peony (Paeonia 'Purple Gem') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Violet-red or ruby-red blooms with cream shading and black flares open in early to late spring. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Butterflies visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Lenten rose, Big bluestem, and Clematis.
