Notes

'Purpurea superba' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Purpurea superba') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Violet-red blooms open in early summer on tall, upright plants. The flowers are fragrant and make good cut flowers. Modeste Guérin bred it.

Pairs well with Showy milkweed, Ostrich fern, and Limeglow creeping juniper.
