Notes

'Red Champion' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Red Champion') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The large, fully double flowers are bright deep red and bloom in mid to late spring into early summer. The strong stems make no sidebuds. Murray Orchard bred it in 1957.

Pairs well with Columbine, Smooth aster, and Sedge.
