Notes

'Red Ensign' peony (Paeonia 'Red Ensign') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Its glossy, dark red semi-double blooms are fragrant and sit gracefully above trim dwarf foliage. Edward Auten, Jr bred this officinalis hybrid.

Pairs well with Woolly yarrow, Switchgrass, and Stargazer lily.
