Notes

'Red Mohican' ornamental onion (Allium amethystinum 'Red Mohican') is a bulb for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. Glowing purple-red flower heads of tightly packed, fragrant florets sit on stems about 3 to 4 feet tall. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Coneflower, Sea holly, and Montbretia.
