Notes

'Red Monarch' peony (Paeonia 'Red Monarch') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The large red blooms have purple highlights and a sweet scent, and stiff stems hold them up on plants as tall as 39 inches. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. Edward Auten, Jr bred it, and butterflies and bees visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Annabelle hydrangea, Stargazer lily, and Switchgrass.
