Notes

'Rio Grande' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Rio Grande') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The stems stand straight and erect at about three feet tall, with dark green leaves. The double red flowers hide stamens between large petals. The shiny dark red color does not turn blue.

Pairs well with Iris, Incrediball hydrangea, and Foxtail barley.
