Notes

'Robert W. Auten' peony (Paeonia 'Robert W. Auten') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, specimen plantings, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Edward Auten, Jr bred it in 1948, and its large, fragrant, dark red semi-double blooms sit on stiff stems. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers.

Pairs well with White Swan coneflower, Krossa Regal hosta, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
