Notes

'Roman Gold' peony (Paeonia 'Roman Gold') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Fragrant lemon-yellow blooms with dark red flares open in spring and early summer, and their pointed petals give a star effect. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Arthur Percy Saunders bred it in 1941.

Pairs well with Jacob’s ladder, Garden phlox, Big bluestem, and Greig's tulip.
