Notes

'Rubrum' oriental fountain grass (Cenchrus orientalis 'Rubrum') is a grass for borders, containers, and annual beds. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Burgundy red blooms appear in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn, and birds visit the plant. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Give it room, since it grows 36 to 60 inches tall.

Pairs well with Lemon grass, Pineapple sage, and Papyrus.
