Notes
Pineapple sage (Salvia elegans) is a perennial for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Red flowers open in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn, drawing hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and birds. Deer tend to browse other plants first. The fragrant plant grows fast and forms a clump.
Pairs well with Magnus coneflower, Lemon Queen sunflower, and Totally Tangerine dahlia.
Native range
Mexico and Guatemala.
