'Ruby Slippers' oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia 'Ruby Slippers') is a shrub for specimen planting, shade gardens, woodland edges, and foundation beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It stays compact and mounding. The flowers open white, age to pink, and then turn ruby red.
