Notes

'Sable' peony (Paeonia 'Sable') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The single flowers are dark red and fragrant, and bees and butterflies visit them. Lyman D. Glasscock bred it. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Halcyon hosta, Standing Ovation little bluestem, and Polish Spirit clematis.
