Notes

'Scarlet Tanager' peony (Paeonia 'Scarlet Tanager') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Prof. Arthur Percy Saunders bred it in 1942, and the tall plant bears fragrant vermilion blooms that attract butterflies and bees. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits.

Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Prairie dropseed, and Nodding onion.
