Notes

Sierra wild winger (Asarum hartwegii) is a perennial for borders, low maintenance beds, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Pitcher-shaped, brownish-maroon flowers hide on short stems underneath the leaves in late spring to early summer. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Good drainage is important.

Pairs well with Fringed bleeding heart, Palace Purple alum root, and Western columbine.
