Notes

European wild ginger (Asarum europaeum) is a perennial for ground cover, borders, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy, clay, or chalky soil. Brownish-red flowers hide beneath the glossy foliage in late spring to early summer. It sits low on the menu for deer. It is slow to establish, so give it time and patience.

Pairs well with Ostrich fern, Bloodroot, and Toad lily.
