Notes

Silky aster (Symphyotrichum sericeum) is a perennial for meadow and naturalized gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to average soil. Silky hairs cover its small, gray-green leaves, and wiry, zig-zag stems give it a delicate look. Lavender-purple flowers with yellow centers open in late summer and early to mid autumn and draw butterflies. Once established, it forms clumps and self-seeds, so give it room.

Pairs well with Wild bergamot, Blue grama, and Brown-eyed Susan.
