Notes
'Smnhrll' smooth hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens 'Smnhrll') is a shrub for borders, specimen planting, woodland gardens, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast and forms a clumping mound up to 60 inches tall and wide. Plum-pink and pale purple-grey florets open in summer, and butterflies, bees, and birds visit them. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first.
Pairs well with Sensitive fern, Royal fern, Spanish bluebell, and Northern bayberry.
