Notes

'Solitude' peony (Paeonia 'Solitude') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Its medium red blooms have a slight yellow tinge and open in early to late spring. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Derek Irvine bred it in 2001.

Pairs well with False indigo, Niobe clematis, and Big bluestem.
